Dandelion from root to bottle
The dandelion used for dandelion coffee comes from the same plant you see growing in fields and gardens. However, it’s the root of the plant, rather than the leaves or flowers, that’s used to make dandelion coffee.
These roots grow deep into the soil, absorbing minerals and nutrients. When harvested, they are washed, dried, roasted, and then granulated to be brewed like coffee. The roasting process enhances their naturally earthy, slightly bitter flavour, creating a smooth, rich, caffeine-free alternative to coffee. Plus, dandelion root is packed with prebiotics, antioxidants, and liver-supporting compounds, making it a popular choice for gut health and detoxification. Testosterone is not just for the lads
When you hear “testosterone,” you probably picture muscle-bound gym bros, but here’s the kicker—women have more testosterone than estrogen. Yep, really. And just like men, women need to optimise their testosterone levels for energy, mood, metabolism, and muscle tone. Low testosterone can leave you feeling sluggish, mentally foggy, and struggling to maintain strength.
The good news? You don’t need fancy supplements or extreme measures to give it a natural boost. Here are three easy ways to optimise your testosterone:
- Prioritise Strength Training – Lifting weights or doing bodyweight exercises (think squats, push-ups, deadlifts) signals your body to produce more testosterone. Plus, muscle is a metabolic powerhouse, keeping you strong and lean.
- Get Enough Quality Sleep – Testosterone is produced while you sleep, and poor rest tanks your levels fast. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep to keep your hormones in check.
- Eat Healthy Fats – Your body needs good fats (avocados, nuts, olive oil, eggs) to create hormones. Ditch the ultra-processed junk and fuel yourself with real, nutrient-dense foods.
Hormone Disclamer: Estrogen is the dominant hormone in terms of physiological influence on the female body. However Testosterone is the most abundant sex hormone in women at all times but pregnancy. To learn more about female hormone health, Dr Sara Gottfried is a fantastic listen here.

Gluten Free: To bread or not to bread
Gluten-free diets have exploded in popularity, but is ditching gluten really the answer for everyone? For those with coeliac disease or a true gluten intolerance, avoiding gluten is essential to prevent serious health issues. But for the rest of us? The science suggests that cutting out gluten unnecessarily might mean missing out on fibre and key nutrients found in whole grains. In some cases, it’s even linked to gut imbalances.
That said, plenty of people report feeling lighter and more energetic when they reduce gluten. Could it be less about gluten itself and more about the overall quality of food? Just because something is labeled "Gluten-Free" doesn’t mean it’s good for you—often, it’s packed with 25 unpronounceable ingredients and ultra-processed to the max.
Personally it's not uncommon for me to indulge in the local bakeries at the weekends but generally, gluten makes me feel slow in mind and body it's rare I bring it to the house.
HEALTH HACK
Oil Pulling
Before you reach for mouthwash, try this ancient trick—oil pulling. Swishing a spoonful of coconut oil around your mouth for 10-15 minutes (yes, really) can help remove bacteria, freshen breath, and even support gum health. The oil binds to nasties in your mouth, and when you spit it out (in the bin, not the sink—no plumbing disasters, please), you’re getting rid of them too.
