What Is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a refreshing, fermented sparkling tea packed with live cultures that support your gut health, immune function, and detoxification. Booyah Kombucha is made using green tea, organic cane sugar, symbiotic culture of bacterial yeast (SCOBY) and water. When these ingredients are brought together, the SCOBY feeds off of the sugar content, growing in size and fermenting the liquid.

Why does kombucha need to be kept in the fridge?

Booyah kombucha is made raw. This means the brew remains unpasteurised, keeping in as much good bacteria and nutrients in as possible. Because it is a raw product, it must stay in the fridge otherwise the brew will continue fermenting. Keeping your raw kombucha in the fridge unopened will preserve it best lasting up to 6 months from the date of production. You may see ‘bits’ in your drink, this is a good thing as it is a bit of the ‘mother’ you can drink it.

Why does kombucha upset my gut?

If you are new to kombucha and raw fermented products, it’s important to start slow and build yourself up. Drinking a few bottles of raw kombucha when your gut has never experienced it before is too much at once. Make sure you keep your kombucha in the fridge to stop it over fermenting.

Why is there sugar in kombucha?

Sugar is an important part of the fermentation process for kombucha. Most of the sugar is absorbed during fermentation. The sugar that is left in each bottle is a fuel source for the living cultures in the bottle itself. Without the sugar, the living cultures will starve.

Does it kombucha have any caffeine?

Kombucha has similar levels of caffeine to a regular cup of tea from the green tea used for each brew. However some of the caffeine is dispersed in the process leaving you with minimal caffeine in each bottle.
