How to introduce our drinks to your diet

You’ve all heard the phrase ‘anything worth doing, is worth doing well’, right?

Well, let me introduce you to a new phrase- a better phrase. Anything worth doing, is worth doing badly.

You’ve decided you want to improve your health. You’ve had a look through tonnes of blogs, health magazines, spoken to the doctor, asked your friends… and you’re drowning in well intentioned recommendations. Drink this, eat that, do this. Where do you start? How can you possibly maintain all these new things at once?

The simple answer is: Don’t.

I know, I know- as health nutritionists, surely, we should be encouraging you to eat and drink all the healthy things. Well, we do! But also, we know how overwhelming big changes can be. People who make small, easy changes are more likely to keep up with them and develop new habits, rather than people who throw themselves into the deep end and try to change everything at once. After all, it takes approximately 66 days to make a new habit become automatic- it’s a lot simple to drink one glass of dandelion coffee for 3 months than it is to maintain an entire new nutritional plan!

What does Booyah Vitality sell?

At Booyah Vitality, we hand craft three different drinks; dandelion coffee, kombucha, and turmeric shots.

Kombucha is a drink made from organic tea (black or green), fermented with organic sugar, and a living organism called a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). It is sweet, lightly fizzy, and chock full of probiotics, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is a miracle worker for supporting your immune system by looking after your liver and gut. Our kombucha comes in four flavours; orange and cinnamon; lemon iced tea; cucumber, mint, and lime; and lemon and ginger.

Dandelion Coffee is a drink made from roasted dandelion roots. It resembles coffee in both taste and appearance, but is completely caffeine-free. Dandelion root is a fabulous liver cleanser, promoting detoxification of toxins that have built up in your system.

Our Turmeric Shot is, rather than a large glass of drink, more of a quick and easy shot of health.

Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant which fights inflammation, improves the immune system, and even works as a natural painkiller.

How to add turmeric shots to your diet…

Undoubtably the easiest of our drinks to introduce to your daily life is the turmeric shot. We recommend you take one 35ml shot a day to maintain good health. If you are suffering from particular aches and pains, you can take two shots a day morning and evening for a few days to get an extra boost, before dropping back to one shot for regular use.

The turmeric shot is not designed to be leisurely sipped. It is not sweetened with any juices or flavourings, although you can mix in a little honey if you need to. It’s got a powerful kick, helped along by the cayenne pepper, and can take a little getting used to. It’s best to think of this drink as more of a medicine: down it in one and, boom, health goal achieved! This has won a Great Taste award on the pureness of it. This is what was said “We could tell this was a turmeric drink immediately from the vibrant orange colour and aroma that also had hints of lemon and ginger, which was appealing. We could detect the authentic bitterness of turmeric on the palate with a subtle cayenne warmth on the finish, which was smooth rather than harsh. It was clear that no sweetener was used in this pure-tasting product, where the quality of turmeric was evident. It would be very popular with fans of turmeric health drinks. Well done. “

How to add dandelion coffee to your diet…

Dandelion coffee is an easy swap for your normal cup of coffee. While regular coffee is actually quite good for you, but the caffeine it contains isn’t. You can read about the health risks in our blog on caffeine consumption.

Our dandelion coffee is as versatile as any form of coffee. You could drink it black, straight from the bottle, if you like an expresso style shot. Mix it with coconut water for a fabulous electrolyte hit.

Warm it with milk- it works well with plant milks for a dairy free version.

For something a little fancier, try a ‘bulletproof coffee’. Mix the dandelion coffee with boiled water, allow it to cool slightly, then chuck it in the blender with 1tablespoons of healthy fat (coconut butter is a favourite). Blend it up and enjoy a super frothy coffee that will boost your metabolism, raise your energy levels, and even help control your blood sugar levels. Not to mention, it tastes great!

How to add kombucha to your diet…

When you first start drinking kombucha, it’s best to ease yourself in. The probiotics pack a punch and if your body is not used to it, drinking too much in one go can cause an upset stomach. For the first day, only drink a couple of ounces. The next day, up it to a couple more. And so forth. There isn’t really an upper limit to how much you can drink, just be warned kombucha does contain a little alcohol (due to the fermentation process) and is made with sugar, so keep an eye on the sugar content.

Kombucha is, by far, the most versatile of our drinks. We’re constantly being surprised by the creative ways people are introducing kombucha into their repertoire, so here’s a round-up of a few ideas. Let us know how you use it!

Kombucha on the rocks

Our kombucha comes in four delicious flavours which can be enjoyed straight from the bottle. Pour over ice and sip your way to refreshing health.

Kombucha and juice

If you’re just starting out trying kombucha, some people can find it a little sharp. Top it up with some fruit juice for a less intense drink.

Kombucha smoothie

Any smoothie you usually make, just swap the juice out for kombucha. The cucumber, mint, and lime flavour would work amazingly well in a green smoothie. Pick a handful of leafy greens, a handful of fruit, and a cup of kombucha… blend… and enjoy.

If you fancy a thicker smoothie, try blending yoghurt with fruit and kombucha. Top it with granola to make a fabulous smoothie bowl for breakfast!

Kombucha Cocktails

The light fizz makes kombucha a good swap for the usual alcohol mixers. Instead of lemonade with your vodka, try lemon iced tea kombucha. You can switch your soda out completely, or you can half-and-half it when mixing up bigger batches of, for example, sangria. The less fizzy pop you’re consuming, the better!

Kombucha Float

Pour a glass of kombucha and top with a scoop of ice-cream for an updated version of a childhood favourite.

Do I need to be consistent to get the health benefits?

Having a consistent routine involving all three of our drinks is definitely the way to get maximum health benefits. But, at Booyah Vitality, we know it can be hard to find time to overhaul your entire diet habit. Each of our drinks pack a health punch in their own right, and they are so good for you, that even drinking them as and when you find time will do you a world of good.

Start small, and let big habits grow.

After all, anything that is worth doing is worth doing badly… to start with.
